SKYBIRD - DRESDEN AIRPORT

Complex renewal of the runway has started

A process to submitting until fall of the year 2008 has been started with the handing over of the planning documents for the renovation of the runway 04/22 of the airport to the government committee Dresden in December 2004, in this all justifiable interests are decided, checked, and converted in the realization phase, one involved taken note. This concerns particularly airport neighbors, environment as well as traffic technical and business organizational questions of a smooth air traffic.

To do justice to all requirements on a regulated air traffic under maximum take off weight and to every season among others in the middle-distance area, the runway becomes a total length of 2970 m including two "Blastpads". 80 m become by the reduction of the breadth of the runway of present been of use (for 51 m) by it on 60 m, despite the prolongation by 462 m, a reduction of the sealed surface of 11% reached. The redeveloped runway is got a beaconing allowed for the space weather fit use on both sides after category III. This is given only in country direction 04 at the moment. The widening of the runway from 60 to 72 m is remarkable at the thresholds 04 and 22. A backtrack, safely turning round or a swivel of machines, like the Airbus A380, the Antonov An-124, the Boeing 747-400 or the Ilyushin 96, made possible on, from and to the runway.

The number of taxiways will remain unchanged in this respect with 5 in that the present taxiway "Echo" is set up to the runway as well as the taxiway "Hotel" back builtly and after prolongation again to the "new" threshold 22.
All taxiways then become 90° angles in what permits the pilots optimal insight into the two directions to the runway gone.

At this plan the fact that the complete new construction of the SLB is carried out at regular air traffic has the engineer technically demanding. The distance of the middle axis is only 70 m the old to the new runway. The air traffic will have to rest, caused making technologically, into Klotzsche merely at 2 or 3 weekends. After completion of the new runway the old gets back built and her base of immediately renatured
